You know, there is a somewhat credible leak that said Team Flare were originally going to be aliens (I know it sounds crazy but the leak predicted quite a few things). Honestly explains their quirky designs and mannerisms pretty well.

Gen 1 sprites where great for their time, but everyone calls them ugly. Don't blame Game Freak it's their first game and also Gen 1 music 🎵 was ahead of its time, the shear beauty I'll always love the battle theme ❤
